Frequently Asked Questions
What Is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic use of clinical hypnosis (as opposed to entertainment/stage hypnosis) for the purposes of behavior modification, pain/stress relief, resolution of fears and phobias and to aid in changing though processes about nearly anything.
How Does It Work?
Under the suggestions of a trained, professional, certified hypnotherapist, your subconscious mind is encouraged to come to the foreground of your thoughts. Your conscious/waking mind is persuaded to rest. What some might call your “Inner Self”, “Little Voice Within”, “Spark of the Divine”, or “Spirit” will calm the chatter of emotions and feelings that clutter your conscious waking mind. You are never out of control and you can always just open your eyes and stop the process.
Are There Any Reasons Not to Use Hypnotherapy?
There are some neurological conditions which may present extenuating circumstances. A diagnosis of bi-polar disorder, schizophrenia or seizure disorder may require the advice/approval of a physician/psychiatrist before starting hypnosis.
Who Can Be Hypnotized?
Nearly everyone can be hypnotized provided they have the mental reasoning power to follow a suggestion. It also important that they want to be hypnotized by that therapist at that time. If you feel uncomfortable with the process or even the therapist, chances are that you won’t relax enough to be hypnotized. In that case, a professional hypnotherapist will either ask questions to resolve your apprehensions or perhaps suggest another hypnotherapist that you may prefer. Your emotional comfort is the prime objective.
What Does It Feel Like?
Imagine yourself in your most relaxed state; sitting by the fire, sitting in a hot tub, getting a massage...
It's as if you are in the most relax state you have ever reached before.
Each session, your waking or conscious mind can relax more deeply and you will feel even more tranquil.
How Many Office Visits (Sessions) Will I Need?
The number of sessions needed is like asking how many aspirins will it take to get rid of my headache. The answer depends on a lot of factors.
For most people, the benefits of the first session “lasts” about 5-7 days. For this reason, nearly all clients can benefit from a three session program, with 7-10 days between each session.
Will I Remember What You Said?
The ability to recall under hypnosis is under the same control as whether or not you remember a dream. If your Inner Self or subconscious wants you to continue to think about an issue when you dream or have hypnotherapy, then your subconscious will keep it on the forefront of your thoughts after waking. Ultimately, you are in control.
Will I Cluck like a Chicken?
Not unless you really want to!
In all seriousness, as a certified hypnotherapist, I am here to help you reach your goals. In other words, no one can make you do what you don’t want to do, not even under hypnosis.
